Engaging with residents from the existing out of date scheme using large scale models, HLP designed a new extra care scheme to fulfil their aspirations.  The scheme is designed to Design for Dementia standards including a full interior design service.

This new development is an extra care project with one bedroom and two bedroom apartments with communal facilities and landscaped gardens. 

The development has been designed to create adaptable extra care units which have good quality living and kitchen areas with level access showers.  The apartments are flooded with light from large windows and a deep balcony extends across the full width of the apartment with built in storage.

The circulation areas are wide and seating areas bring light into the heart of the building creating pleasant places to rest, meet and view the landscape.

There is a large communal lounge and kitchen which look over the landscaped gardens.  There are communal facilities such as a laundry, scooter store and visitors rooms.  The residents are supported with staff offices and assisted bathrooms.

HLP worked with the residents of an existing sheltered facility who would move to the new development. By visiting residents and using large scale models HLP were able to engage the future users in the new designs and support their move to the new extra care unit.
