The Skylarks Centre in Nottinghamshire was extended and refurbished to provide high quality respite care accommodation for guests, volunteers and resident staff. The centre is fully equipped for the very broad range of disability needs of its guests, providing them with hotel style accommodation. The works at the centre were split into four phases, as follows:

• Phase 1 comprised of a single storey extension to provide 8 new en-suite guest bedrooms.
• Phase 2 involved the refurbishment of the existing accommodation and alteration of existing accommodation to make all existing guest bedrooms en-suite. A multipurpose activity room that can accommodate crafts, hairdressing and many other activities was incorporated by removing the former communal bathing / toilet accommodation made redundant by the incorporation of en-suite bathrooms.
• Phase 3 involved the extension of the existing living accommodation and enclosing an existing external first floor terrace to provide a mezzanine floor overlooking the new double height living room and bar.
• Phase 4 extensively upgraded the volunteer accommodation was to provide single bedrooms with improved bathroom facilities and a two storey extension was added to provide additional accommodation.

Works were carried out successfully within a restricted time scale to minimise the shutdown period and loss of revenue. The centre incorporated the latest wireless technology to achieve energy efficiency and compliance with relevant environmental and care standards.
