A secure, fun and flexible learning experience was created through design philosophy which integrates classrooms, a central resource and exterior teaching spaces.

At Stockton Wood, HLP was asked to design in consultation with governors, teachers, parents and the local education authority to replace the ageing school with a new facility.
The successful design, which evolved through this consultation process, is a key asset for the school and for the community as a whole.
The design creates opportunities for outdoor interaction with indoor teaching spaces through a close integration between the building and the landscape.
Brightly-lit, colourful classrooms open out onto exterior play areas. The classrooms are designed around a central shared resource facility which benefits from natural light and natural ventilation. The relationship between the classrooms, the central resource and the exterior landscape, provides a stimulating atmosphere, creating a secure, fun and flexible learning experience.
The landscaped environment is designed to foster learning, play and relaxation through a broad sculptural approach to modelling landforms.
