Since joining the practice in 1989 following completion of his Bachelor of Architecture (RIBA Part 2) as the principal member of staff in the newly formed Nottingham office, Mark has played a pivotal role in developing a small local presence into a prominent local force in the East & West Midlands and further South and West with projects extending recently to the Isle of Wight and Tenby in South Wales. Utilising a combination of a strong technical background and previous commercial and retail sector experience, the office has built upon the national partnerships enviable track record of working closely with end users of buildings, community groups and public / private partnerships alike.

Since becoming a partner of the practice in 1996, Mark continues to explore and develop projects with clients that both positively enhance the development process with close partnership working methods and the physical regeneration of whole areas and individual buildings.

Mark is the resident Senior Partner of the Nottingham office and is directly responsible for coordination, development and control of practice resources, as well as maintaining direct relevant lead role / involvement in major projects and developments. This has established the practice’s involvement in the creation of, and contribution to many significant local initiatives and specific regeneration / development projects over the last thirty years.

Mark also contributes to, and undertakes wider practice development roles within other offices, as well as coordination of, and overseeing various health and safety aspects and continuing IT / business systems implementation initiatives within the practice.

Mark combines his vocation, enthusiasm and passion for architecture and design with the day-to-day operation of the practice and a wider, local and national voluntary professional role. As immediate past Chairman of RIBA East Midlands Regional Council, Mark has served as a member of the RIBA Nations and Regions Committee and has also been a past president of the local RIBA branch – Nottingham and Derby Society of Architects. Recently he has been elected to the RIBA National Council on behalf of East Midlands members’, for the next three years.

Previously, he has also served as an external examiner at Nottingham Trent University for the B.Arch. course (RIBA Part 1) and University of Nottingham for RIBA Part 3 (Professional Studies).

The work of the practice in the East Midlands has grown significantly in scale and complexity over the past thirty years. Examples of various project case studies led and undertaken by Mark in the Nottingham office currently range from conservation and refurbishment of one hundred and ninety-four, two and three storey Grade II listed dwellings in conjunction with HLF funding, to specialist Extracare and specialist elderly complexes, retirement villages and dementia care complexes, as well as extensive new build speculative and affordable developments ranging in scale from a few (five or six units) up to in excess of several hundred units.
