The Egremont project involved the demolition of 2 streets of small 1919 dilapidated terraced housing to create new modern homes with generous amenity spaces within a rejuvenated street pattern.
The design of the development is contextual to the surrounding houses using materials that relate to the area and including details which reflect the texture and colours seen locally while being vibrant and modern.
The use of short terraces with incurtilage parking and strong boundary walls and fence details gives a continuous form enclosing the site and maintains active frontages all around the development. The 36 homes are 2,3 and 4 bedroom family houses and bungalows, built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, Lifetime Homes, Secured by Design and incorporate renewable energy sources.
The solar thermal panels generate hot water savings and this coupled with a highly insulated fabric gives a comfortable environment all year round. The heating system can then be managed by the SMART meters installed to each property which give residents information on energy consumption.
This modern energy efficient housing with its earth tone colours has revitalised the neighbourhood housing offer and set a standard for housing in the area.
