The housing market in Morecambe is dominated by large properties, many of which are rented out as flats/bedsits.
The town has suffered decline in recent years but is now considered an up and coming area due to the regeneration of the West End. However, there are very few owner occupied homes due to low income and an excess of single person accommodation.
The Marlborough Road Project tackles this imbalance, providing a mix of shared ownership, general needs apartments and houses for sale.
This project was the first phase of the new build initiative in the area and a visible sign of positive regeneration through its contemporary design.
The street scene has been carefully designed and detailed to echo the positive aspects of the surrounding properties. Generous window proportions, a rhythm of bay windows and a strong building line define the street.
Ultimately, the West End will be a more attractive place to live, drawing residents with a property stake in the locality, reducing the transient nature of the area.
This scheme achieves Code for Sustainable Homes Code 3 with 10% renewables.
