As part of the wider regeneration strategy for the Anfield/Breckfield neighbourhood, HLP put forward an innovative proposal to bring back to life an area of failing ‘2 up, 2 down’ Victorian terraces which include environmental improvement alongside remodelling properties.
The pilot project developed the concept of 2 into 1, a key element of our proposals. The design tackles the challenge of small substandard dwellings with steep staircases, no private amenity space, and poor kitchens and bathrooms, by demolishing the 70s outriggers and combining 2 properties to create a 90m2 3 bedroom family house with a private garden.
Modern kitchens, bathrooms and staircase, together with Eco-Homes standards produce an attractive housing option at a viable cost. Low energy specifications include good thermal insulation to the walls and roof space, and a positive air input ventilation system.
The pilot scheme was fitted out as a ‘show house’ to assess response and demonstrate commitment to the community.
