Bob joined HLP’s Liverpool office in 1997 investing his interest in the practice’s hallmark philosophy of ‘participatory design’. He became a partner in 2001 following a National Housing Award since when he has focussed upon end user consultation establishing real cohesion between design intent and fitness for purpose.

Bob is a conscientious, self motivated architect who delivers quality through cost effective, imaginative and sustainable solutions. He takes a keen interest in eco-friendly technology and environmental sustainability with a three line tack concerned with value for money, appropriate use of technology and social behaviour.

His design approach is straightforward : understand his client’s business before tailoring his design skills; maintaining transparency, building mutual trust, delivering through teamwork and ultimately relinquishing project ownership. Enabling clients to make design decisions within the context of their work environment is fundamental to forming successful partnerships to deliver quality environments to a budget fit for a purpose.

Having studied in Oxford Bob moved to London working within teams designing shopping centres, business parks and urban shopping villages. He later worked in Liverpool again with a commercial practice designing offices, shopping centres, award winning factories, car show rooms and private housing developments. Bob ultimately joined our Liverpool office with a healthy commercial background seeking to diversify our work sectors.

His starting project was the construction of the final phase of housing at Hulme Manchester, shortly followed by his innovative award winning Liverpool Powerhouse Foyer. Since accepting the partnership role Bob has successfully lead our advancement into the Education sector, coupled with ongoing residential and leisure projects and is recognised for achieving early sustainable construction in schools.

Bob has had responsibility for the practice’s IT & CAD systems since 2001. We offer practice wide clients fully interactive and co-ordinated information as part of our ‘right first time’ policy, plus a bespoke online database affiliated to our Quality Management System. His work involves continual operations evaluation, innovating new client based solutions, efficiently and cost effectively in tandem with leading market trends and technology. During 2011 Bob also accepted a QMS management role, tailoring existing assured processes to better compliment future CAD structures which is undergoing an accelerated rigourous programme in development, to meet a wide spectrum of customer needs, ranging from hard copy to open BIM models.
